<-1996 "Solve Assist" - VB3 GUI, VB3 Robot, ~9500 Lines of Code
"SOLVE ASSIST" - desktop application that provided a incremental local mirror of data from a mainframe database
- A GUI front-end (VB3) with typical database searching, sorting, multiple filtering and information association functions that provides a user friendly interface to data collected from a mainframe application by a VB3 work allocation Robot.
- Solve Assist (SA) eventuated from analysis of obvious problems users were experiencing when conducting their business operations via a mainframe application. The improvements over using the limited functions in the Mainframe application included the following :-
- SA provided instant data queries rather than slow mainframe response
- SA allowed selectable variable width data fields in the preferred order of presentation rather than fixed fields of fixed width and format
- SA provided sophisticated sorting, filtering and searching facilities with instant response
- a single button click would open the IT Record in the Mainframe application in Browse or Update mode
- One of the innovations of Solve Assist was the correlate IT incident reports on the basis of customer, location, technology or even key word matching within the actual report text. This function could produce summary reports with category totals and could be used in analysis of incident trends. e.g. were particular locations, technologies, etc generating unusually high requests for support
