8. Robert Albert Ditton, son of Abraham Ditton and Sarah Jane Barron, was born in 1900 in Mackay Queensland Australia. Bob first married Florence Christine Wenck on 12 Mar 1924 in Cairns Queensland Australia. Bob was a Clerk, Health Inspector and from 1947 to the 1980's he was the Lockyer Valley correspondent for Brisbane newspapers The Courier-Mail and The Sunday Mail. Bob and Florence separated early and divorced in 1944. He then married Ethel Johnston.  Bob died 1991 in Laidley, Queensland.

Robert and Florence's children were:

  2. Jocelyn Ditton (1924 - 2002) Jocelyn married Elver George Fitzgerald.

9. Florence Christine Wenck , daughter of School Teacher Theodore Bernhardt Julius Wenck and Christina Josefski, was born in 1895 in Ipswich Queensland and died in 1989 in Brisbane Queensland Australia. Florence married Robert Albert Ditton on 12 Mar 1924 in Cairns Queensland Australia.


10. William Edward Norris , son of Gamekeeper Edward Norris and Mary Jane Roberts, was born on 1 Feb 1884 in Petham Kent England UK and died in 1959 in Brisbane Queensland Australia. William, a Decorator, migrated to Australia in 1912 departing London on 29 February on the SS Gothic. On 14 September 1915 William enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. He served in France and was wounded in action on 4 September 1916 receiving severe gunshot wounds to the neck, shoulder and back. During his year long recovery in England he met Elsie Maud Stagg. He returned to the 49th Battalion in France until the Armistice. At the end of the war William and Elsie married and returned to Australia on the Orontes where William was discharged medically unfit with impaired hearing. They settled in Nanango, Queensland and raised three daughters. They named their second daughter Hamel after the French village Le Hamel where Australian troops under the command of General Monash fought a decisive battle. The following obituary is from a 1959 Nanango Daily - "A former and highly respected citizen of Nanango, Mr. William Norris, passed away in Brisbane recently. The deceased who was a First World War digger, had not enjoyed good health for a number of years, but he had often re-visited Nanango, the last occasion being early last month when he met many old friends at the show. The late Bill Norris was a native of England but came to Nanango shortly after the first war and was employed by the Nanango Shire Council. As an employee he was a hard working and conscientious man, and his leisure time was spent on his home and garden. He was a good neighbour and friend and was always willing and happy to assist any movement for the benefit of the town and district. The local RSL and the Church of England were among his main interests. He is survived by his widow and three grown up daughters, and to these we extend our sincere sympathy."

William married Elsie Maud Stagg on 2 Jan 1919 in England UK.

11. Elsie Maud Stagg , daughter of Tom Stagg and Frances Emily Denton, was born in 1898 in Birmingham, England UK. Elsie married William Edward Norris on 2 Jan 1919 in England UK.


12. George Alfred Bailey station hand, later an engine driver was a son of George Bailey and Ellen Rostron born 21 December 1880 in Cooma, New South Wales Australia. He fought in the Boer War at the rank of Trooper in the 1st NSW Citizens' Bushmen unit and 1st Commonwealth Victoria Regiment. George married in Melbourne and lived at 6 Mitchell Street, Northcote with his wife Nora Frawley and their four children. In 1915 he joined the WW1 Australian Imperial Force, fought in France and was severely wounded there. He served for more than three years and was promoted through the ranks to 2nd Lieutenant. 13. Nora Frawley , daughter of John Frawley and Margaret Cantwell, was born in 1881 in Flemington Melbourne Victoria and died in 1956 in Preston Melbourne Victoria Australia. Nora married George Alfred Bailey.


14. Ambrose (Charlie) William Gordon Smith bootmaker, son of John Joseph Smith and Mary Minnie Wyatt, was born in 1896 in Coburg Melbourne Victoria. Ambrose married Christina Violet Louisa Hamann, daughter of Heinrich Rudolph Hamann and Alice Fisher on the 25 July 1914 at the Nth Fitzroy Evangelist Church of Christ. Both were 19 years of age and had written consent of both fathers. Ambrose died in Melbourne on 19 July 1988.
