Rear Telescopic Shocker Conversion

On a recent Social Drive around the Yarra Valley with the Sprite Club ,I noticed that the car wasn't handling like it should .On further investigation I found that one of the rear shockers had seized solid and the other was loose.

I decided instead of replacing them with the standard lever shockers I would try telescopics.A search on some news groups found that Collin Dodds of Sprite Parts in Sydney manufactured and sold a telescopic conversion kit. I contacted Collin and he sent one down to me via the next mail .

The Kit comprised of 2 Gabrial Shockers ,mounting brackets and some bolts.(see picture)

Installation

Installation of the shocker kit was easy and the instructions easy to follow. The only modification was that two holes had to be drilled in the inner guard for for the upper shocker mounting bolt. The hardest part was undoing the Spring U Bolts to remove the lower shocker mounting plate (have to be reversed and installed on the other side )

Note : Make sure that the car is supported properly by axle stands (placed forward of the front spring hanger) as well as supporting the axle with a trolley jack) .

Don't just rely on a jack

Result

So far I am very impressed with the ride (particularly over speed humps ) and the handling of the car.

I wonder why it took me so long to consider this conversion ,perhaps a telescopic kit for the front is next.
