Since buying it as a new car in 1992 ,it has now done 175,000 kms and has been very reliable .
The major expenses have been a new clutch and a front axle .I have also had the carbie and distributer overhauled.
The most annoying problem with it has been the rear window motor which from reading on various web sites is a common problem.Thankfully the power window motors are the same (or similar -- connectors may be different) to most Toyotas .So all you need is to visit your Toyota wrecker and get a rear left hand door motor from a Camary or Corolla (alot cheaper than a 4Runner one)
Most of my driving is around town but it gets used regularly 4wding in the State Forests close to Melbourne ( mainly on old logging and fire trails).I have also done some long distant trips to Western Australia and to the Northern Territory.
Although it is not as rugged as my previous 4wds (Land Rover and Hilux) it is still capable of tackling most of the 4wd tracks with alot more comfort.
