Configuring Pegasus Mail to filter spam

This page details how to configure Pegasus Mail (v4.1) to filter e-mail marked as possible spam by MelbPC's mail server. Currently ??Spam?? is added at the beginning of the subject line so the filtering is based on this.

Step 1

Start Pegasus and click on the filter button.

Step 2

Click on the Add rule button.

Step 3

Click on the Headers button.

Step 4

Tick Subject.

For Contains this text: enter ??Spam??.

For Action: select Move.

Click the Set button.

Step 5

Select the folder to move the ??Spam?? mail to - Junk or suspicious mail in this example.

Click Open to finish the selection.

Step 6

You should now see something like this:

Click on Save and Close.

Step 7

If you routinely receive e-mail such as newsletters that are labelled with ??Spam?? you can add an additional filter to stop the newsletters appearing in the Junk folder.

As before click on the filter button then Add and Headers.

Tick From.

Enter an address to filter on - mailouts@melbpc.org.au in this example.

For Action: select Move.

Click the Set button.

Step 8

Click on the New button.

Enter a name for the folder - Newsletter in this example.

Step 9

You should now see something like this:

Move the rules to suit - filters work from top to bottom so place the Newsletter filter above the ??Spam?? filter by using the up and down arrows.

Click on Save and Close to finish.

Return to The Helpdesk.
