Configuring Forte Agent to filter spam

This page details how to configure Forte Agent 1.93 (not Forte Free Agent) to filter e-mail marked as possible spam by MelbPC's mail server. Currently ??Spam?? is added at the beginning of the subject line so the filtering is based on this.

Step 1

Start Agent and then Window > Open Email Filters.

Step 2

Click on the Add Watch Filter button.

Step 3

For Filter Expression use Subject: ??Spam??.

For Watch Action select Retrieve.

For File in folder click New Folder and enter a name of you choosing - Spam in this example.

Tick Do not leave on server (unless you wish to leave your mail on the server - not normally recommended).

Step 4

If you routinely receive e-mail such as newsletters that are labelled with ??Spam?? you can create a filter to process it before the ??Spam?? filter. The following example filters based on the sender mailouts@melbpc.org.au

For Filter Expression use Any-Sender: mailouts@melbpc.org.au.

For Watch Action select Retrieve.

For File in folder click New Folder and enter a name of you choosing - Spam in this example.

Tick Do not leave on server (unless you wish to leave your mail on the server - not normally recommended).

Filters are evaluated in order of the priority setting (values 0-1000), so if a message meets the criteria of two filters then the highest priority filter takes precedence. Set the priority of the Newsletter filter higher (1000 in this example) than for the ??Spam?? filter (600 in this example). Adjust the priorities of your various filters to suit.

After creating the filters you should see something like this in the Email Filters window:

Return to The Helpdesk.
