AND SO TO TOKYO
After General Douglas MacArthur had made his triumphant return to the Philippines at Leyte in October of 1944, it was followed up by further landings at Lingayen Gulf the following January, the Japanese were then effectively beaten in this theatre by June 30th. 1945 when MacArthur declared that the islands of the Philippines were secure, but some fighting did continue until Japan surrendered on the 15th. of August.

The Naval Historical Society of Australia Inc. is officially recognised and approved by both the Royal Australian Navy and the Department of Defence, and is under the umbrella of the Royal Historical Society of Australia.

The aims and objectives of the Society are:

  • To research, record and collate the history of all Navies, but particularly that of the Royal Australian Navy.
     
  • To encourage and support Naval Museums.
     
  • To promote and uphold the prestige, dignity and traditions of the Naval Service

Membership is open to all whom subscribe to these aims, wholly or in part.

Members will receive the Naval Historical Review which is published quarterly.

The Victorian Chapter also publishes the Three-Headed Dog Newsletter 11 times per year. This includes contributions from members, information about outings, as well as important Naval dates, ship visits and Naval history.

The Chapter meets on the 4th Monday of each month (except December and January) at 7:30pm.

The annual subscription to the Society at Garden Island, NSW is $35.00. To belong to the Victorian Chapter and receive the Three-Headed Dog Newsletter is an additional $15.00
