Treks Not Taken - Steven R. Boyett

This book is a series of short stories; they are Star Trek the Next Generation parodies. The premise of the book is what if a bunch of very well known authors had written episodes of Star Trek.

There is a short preamble about the number of episodes that were made and then it goes on to say how there was this crate of scripts that were never made into episodes later discovered by a janitor cleaning out the studios. Obviously that is a load of crap, but it is a nice lead into the stories.

The cover has a very odd texture, a picture of some planets and a flying fountain pen.

In all there are twenty stories, all crammed into a book less than 200 pages long. As a whole it is very funny collection of short stories really aimed at the star trek fan.

The stories included are:
-The Crusher in the Rye - not by J.D. Salinger
-A Clockwork Data - not by Anthony Burgess
-One Beamed onto the Cuckoo's Nest - not by Ken Keysey
-Jurassic Trek - not by Michael Crichton
-The Ship Also Rises - not by Ernest Hemingway
-Less Than Data - not by Bret Easton Ellis
-Trek-22 - not by Joseph Heller
-All the Pretty Humans - not by Cormac McCarthy

-Trek of Darkness - not by Joseph Conrad
-On the Bridge - not by Jack Kerouac

Well worth a look at if you want something quick and amusing to read.
