Shadowrun - Series Overview

Various Authors

This is a pretty cool series. I've like all the books from it that I have read so far, I hear there are some real duds in there, haven't found any yet.

The world that this series is set in is interesting, it is basically a blend of cyberpunk and the standard sword and sorcery fantasy. There is the staggeringly advanced technology, cybernetics is common and most people are equipted to plug them selves directly into the computer. To offset this there are two major forms of magic (shamanistic style magic and a more scientific approach that I forgot the name of) plus all the major fantasy races are there.

Oh yeah and if you didn't allready know the "world" started of as the background to a roleplaying system.

But to keep things more believeable the Fantasy races are "awakened" races they are basically mutated/evolved/devolved humans. The most interesting of these (In my opinion anyway) are the "Goblinised" races, these are the Goblins, Orcs and Trolls.

The Goblinised races are often born as normal looking humans then somewhere around puberty devolve into green monster, through a process know as "Goblinisation". It is basically a lucky dip, or is that unlucky dip.Since they start of as normal humans for the most part they are mostly outcasts, and more often than not tend towards violence.

The Elves are pooncy and good at magic, Dwarves are fat and dumpy and Gnomes are like little dwarves that are good with gadgets, so its the same as in any generic fantasy really in that respect.
