Mythos Series - Series Overview

Author: Brian Lumley

Brian Lumley has been one of the more influential writers of stories in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, he definately rates up there with the greats.

This series has come in many forms, it comprises of six shortish interconnecting stories and has been sold in many diferent combinations of cover art and groupings of stories.

I have the Mythos Omnibus, this is two books three stories in each. The cover art is all skulls and tenticle things, this will be on display once I write reviews of the books.

The stories center around the battle between good and evil, races of gods(who are actually ancient alien races) fighting it out, The evil gods are the Cthulhu Cycle Deities (CCD for short) as originally concieved by H.P. Lovecraft and expanded by many authors over the years, the cood guys have a lame name that escapes me at the moment and are basically cousins of the bad guys but prefer using their powers for good instead of evil.

The various CCD have been imprisoned throughout time and space, many are imprisoned on earth in places such as the bottom of the ocean, but the prisons have began to break down due to natural causes and people unwittingly interfering with them.

Incidentally I just remembered the name give to the good gods "Elder Gods"

There are several central characters Titus Crow, Henri-Laurent de Marigny, Hank Silberhutte, David Hero aka Hero of Dreams, Eldin the Wanderer, and a whole bunch of un-pronouncable gods.

There are also spin off books about some of the characters. Titus Crow has a book of short stories about him (The Compleat Crow), de Marigny makes multipile appearances. David and Eldin have four books (Dreamlands Series).

More indepth descriptions will be found in the book reviews.
