A seven part fantasy series about a world that was sptil into four separate realms, worlds in their own right. Each realm represents an element (Sky, Stone, Fire, Water). The realms are linked up by gates called "Death Gates"
The real point of interest about this world is that it was once all one world, a stupidly long amount of time ago two great godlike races were locked in an endless battle, the lesser races (Humans, Elves, Dwarves) were caught up in this battle as one would expect. At some point one of the godlike races decided it would be a good idea to sunder the world into four worlds based on the elements and have them interconected by the deathgates, they would trap the other god like race in a giant labrynth that would eventually rehabilitate them from their evil ways.
Anyhow things started to turn to shit, the so called good godlike race that sundered the world went into hybernation in these crystal chambers and let the lower races fend for themselves. The Labrynth turned nasty and the worlds were not supplying each other as they were designed to do.
Skip forward quite a few millenia and the story comences. At the exit from the labrynth the second person ever to make it this far is helped out through the final gate, and is sent on a mission (by the first person to ever make it out) to go to the various worlds and track down their ancient enemy so they may get revenge. Eventually he finds that their is only one remaining member from the other race left, like everything else the chambers failed and he somehow survived.
They end up traveling to the various worlds together and disasters are happening at every place they visit, they end up having to work together to fight the greater evil.
This was a highly enjoyable series, it is world building on a grand scale each one of the first four books is dedicated to an individual realm, the fun really starts in the final three though when things all start to come together.
