This book is basically a vampire story, it centers around a reporter and her family. I say basically a vampire story because it has vampire like creatures in it.
These "vampires" do not call them selves vampires they go by the name of "the kind", they do not feed on blood, they basically feed on dreams, emotions and life force. The main badguy vampire thing has had an interesting past, at one stage even forming a kingdom of creatures like himself and declaring himself king. Eventually a band of mercaneries hunted down the king and his court killing everyone except the "king".
After this our nasty immortal friend believed he was the only one of his kind left, until one day in a resturant he came accross another of his kind, an ancient female. She basically brushed him off in favour of a human playwrite. As a result our badguy decides to wreck the playwrite's career and hunt down his family. You guessed it the reporter is his daughter.
It is a rather hard book to descibe, and it gets strange later on when there starts to be doubled up chapters, like two chapter nines in a row. And half of it is spent in dreams.
The copy I have has a very textural cover, it is partially satin finish with a gloss picture in the middle, the writing is gloss as well. To top it off the picture is odd to look at, as can be seen in the cover scan, when mixed with the colours that have been used it is a very well composed cover (even if it does look like shit in the scan).
