HOME TRAINING

The advantage of Home Training is that it can be scheduled to suit the owner's available time. Because it is a one-on-one course, the training can be tailored to the owner's requirements, particularly any concerns applicable to the home environment. Nearly all unacceptable behaviour can be overcome with simple practical remedies.

The number of home training sessions needed is dependent on the progress achieved. Generally 2 or 3 sessions is all that may be necessary.

PUPPY HOME TRAINING

It is easy to meld a puppy to be an acceptable member of the household that it lives in. The younger a puppy starts training the less chance it has to develop bad habits. A bad behaviour of a dog over a period of time, becomes acceptable behaviour in its mind if not corrected.

These lessons teach exercises similar to classes, though extremely flexible in content as well as taking into account the level of training already achieved.

Exercises that can be covered:
Basic exercises(with variations) of Sit, Drop, Stand, Stay and Come.
Other exercises include:
  Walking nicely on the lead
How to stop jumping up on people
  How to stop biting
Learning to leave various items alone
How to relax and calm a dog down
Teaching the dog not to rush out of open doors or enter prohibited areas
Teaching the dog to lie resting on a mat or its bed while you are busy

BASIC HOME TRAINING

Like Puppy Home Training, this course is flexible in its content to account for what the dog has already learnt. This course also allows time to change any possible bad behaviour, particularly those applicable to the home environment.

The content of this course is similar to the Puppy Home Training, but the exercises are more extensive because of a mature dog's greater ability for concentration.

HOME TRAINING PROBLEM SOLVING

As a dog matures, the general behaviour that it expresses becomes a normal part of its life. This can be good or bad, depending on what the owners accept from the dog. Dogs experiencing the adolescent period of their lives can indulge in 'Bad Behaviour' that can be annoying for the owners and, in some cases, neighbours over an extensive period.

Virtually all Bad Behaviour can be changed by analysing the problem and then applying the appropriate corrective training procedure.

There is a saying that "Aggressive behaviour cannot be changed by aggressive means." Be wary of using harsh corrective methods that make the dog fearful of repeating the behaviour, this will not eliminate the act in its mind. It is far better to totally refocus the dog out of their intent by training it to understand that there are behaviours it can perform instead that will make its owners happy.

Give us a call so your problem can be discussed, with possible solutions. Then if needed, an arrangement can be made to visit your home at a time suitable to you, during any week day (including late afternoons), or at limited times on the weekend.

Home Training Problem Solving is normally one session of 1 to 1½ hour duration, with a follow-up phone conversation on progress a week or two later. A second visit can be arranged if needed. A written report can also be requested.
