Continuing to go through the scribbles for the past few days ... seems more like a month ...
... ah yes, there were some new photos, which I ought to upload ... I shall call the file
Feb 2001 Photos ... send me an email if this link leads you 'nowhere' ... I can be forgetful at times ... :)
Imagine saying this to all the various people in your life ... "Trust me. The day will come when you will look back on the way you currently view reality and human existence and absolutely laugh your head off. Naturally, that day may not arrive for several lifetimes." {or it could arrive today ...}
Tons more need to be deciphered from the scribbles on various pieces of paper currently residing in the pocket of my pants ...
In fact i did eventually transcribe substantial portions of it into
here ...
Possible future mantra: "The only way these behaviours will ever really disappear, Is the day the human race decides to choose love rather than fear."
The Grampians
Plus ... some photos ...
Cowes ... here ...
Rick Strassman - author of 'The Spirit Molecule' - the chapter summaries are enticing and there is one PDF version of the chapter 'Contact through the veil' ...
Gilchrist again ...
Nother possible future mantra:
"Twice the world & twice the lifetimes. Where are my extra lifetimes."
Following a link from the cartoon pages ... led me to the photographic section of the Washington Post -
here is a photovoyage whose theme is the healing properites of 'nature' ...
Walking around the house just now ... the following pops into my mind: "Why does it bother you that I am living differently from the way you think I should be living. That's an absolutely key question for you to answer. You're not on this planet to concern yourself with how other human beings live their lives. It's an absurdity. So, if you are doing it, that is a strong indicator that there is something fundamentally wrong with the way you are focusing your attention." ...
Click here for an interesting Buddhist perspective on consciousness etc ... terms i haven't encountered before - makes a LOT of sense ... has some interesting links too ... which eventually lead me to this site -

Long session online yesterday ... when it was quite lovely and I should have been out in the fresh air. Actually, Melbourne is experiencing a very dry spell - only a third of our average summer rainfall and no rain in the forseeable future ... I think our leaders need to do a rain dance or something ...
[In fact, I just heard the 7-day forecast and each day will be between 26 & 28 degrees Celsius ... and no rain]
The Computer Bank Project - they need volunters in the future - some interesting links too ...
Wilsons Prom - I sent them an email as there seems to be a prblem with displaying the photos - a pity as they seem to have many - some of Philip Island too
... well ... here is a site where the photos are visible - one lovely panorama ...
Global Village had a story on
Angkor Wat
... and (you guessed it) following some of those links ... a place called
www.sacredsites.com
Growing vegies in the backyard
Today's mantra:
{Hover your pointer over that image to read the full comment}
Alternatively, you may prefer this one:
"My doctor taught me how to believe in my own metabolic lifetime"
Or even this one (they just keep popping into my head - don't ASK me where they come from
):
"People need a lifetime ... and then they need a world to live in"
The myth of normality
Under an Aussie sky
Norfolk Island
GWBASIC
Sent a couple to my NBC site ...
here ...
A google search for 'Tasha Mansfield' leads me
here ... and
here {self-healing} ... I know a few psychiatrists who would do well to read that ... now, now, Geoff ... forgive them for they know not what they do ... and the main topic was 'Can science study consciousness?' ...
Word Museum
Nearing the end of the longest on-line session in ages ... the following question occurs to me: "Why DO we feel this need to talk to each ther at all? What is driving it?" ...
{especially when you realise that upwards of 90% of the stuff we end up communcating is pointless drivel}

Found there is an 'animal site webring' -
here ... found it mainly from a Google search of
drawings of dogs ...
Fireseek Poetry Forums
More cute animals
Cape Schanck - I've been on these rocks ... :) {Photo 0257 especially}
Click here for more photos from the great state I currently live in ... :) ... including the Grampians & the Prom ... do you sense a pattern emerging here ...
And even more of the Cape can be found
here ...
While we're in the mood for memory lane ... try this ...
... or www.paddleboards.com ... and its extensive links page ...
From recent emails I have received come a few more recommendations ...
Ashtar Command
Elias - some interesting transcripts
www.perfectscience.com
Cute cartoon
Had another look at that Leunig pic - if you crop & save as JPG it is MILES smaller with still the same 'effect' - 24,132 bytes versus 177,067 - I mean I can understand using GIF format if it's animated ...

Ooops ... almost forgot ... today's mantra: "Let's face it, if the purpose of life is to be joyous and sponatneous and endlessly thrilled at the miracle of existence ... then you'd have to count most of the human race as being utter failures wouldn't you ..." {You might also like to incorporate something about being grateful for the gift of life itself into that particular mantra}
[BTW, the font for a few paragraphs above is "Tempus Sans ITC"]
Ah yes, also over the weekend we went along to see 'Castaway' ... very thought-provoking movie ... in many aspects ... I loved
Wilson
{you'll have to see the movie to get what I mean by that
}
Excellent 'family' site

Added a list of some
Aussie photos to my links page(s) ... worth exploring a little further ...
Today's mantra: "This food has a physical structure that is quite unique"
{Naturally, this mantra is best used as a kind of mealtime prayer of gratitude and if used regularly it can alter the structure of anybody's consciousness quite dramatically}
I have been on a real surge lately, which is nothing new ... it may have something to do with that Deep Purple CD I have bin listening to ... he has one amazing voice ...
... especially on the song 'Child In Time' ... how he HITS those notes is beyond me ... and it was recorded live! ... 'wait for the ricochet ...'
Yes, when I was growin up inthe 1970's, I was RIGHT into bands like Deep Purple & Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath ... as well as Mike Oldfield & Yes & Pink Floyd & others ...
Having a quick look at those Elias transcripts ... the topics alone ... "Conflicting Beliefs"; "Simultaneous Time"; "Risk, Security, and Freedom"; "Birds of a Feather Flock Together"; "Your Perception Creates Your Reality"; "What will people think?"; "Nothing is Broken"; "Shifting Kids"; "Mistakes and Opportunities"; "Consciously Creating Pain"; "Perceiving Pain Differently"; "Procrastination vs. Avoidance"; "The Shift/Piercing the Veils"; "Tolerance Is Not Acceptance"; "A Sentimental Journey"; "Reincarnation and Karma"; "Distortions of Truths"; "Aligning (or not) with Mass Beliefs"; "Eye Contact — A Gauge of Acceptance"; "The Physical Imagery Matters Not"; "Shifty Insanity"; "You Create Your Reality"; "There Are No Secrets"; "Beliefs: Death and Medical"; "Protection is Unnecessary"; "Your Purpose is Experience"; "Exploring the Emotion of Anger"; "You ARE The Other Individual"; "Disassociating From Reality"; "What Am I Doing Here?"; "Conflict in Relationships"; "The Noble Act of Forgiveness"; "Creating a Wondrous Abandon!"; and many more ... I think there was one about 'combining' anger & fun ?? ...
... read the Intro ... and there is a CD available ... as well as audio ...
Yes, the idea that 'there are no victims' & that 'protecting' & worrying are completely unnecessary ... most people would call that crazy talk ... :) ... and that there are no secrets! ... Session 586
Today's extra mantra:

Today's mantra is an oldie but a goodie: "Complaining is a complete waste of emotional energy. You have two options - you can try to manipulate external reality or you can work on manipulating your own internal reality. But sitting around complaining is never of any benefit to anyone."

A couple of rough days - don't ask ... but slowly re-surfacing {no pun intended} ...
But still found time to surf a bit ... & add a few more sites to my latest list of
Aussie photos
Aussie meditation site ... from a list of aussie sites -
... here .... which led me to ... here
... and that mainly came about searching for a broken link of 'Susan 12,000 km trip around Australia' ... which was said to have include 'magnificent photos' ... oh well, such is the web ...
plus sigirya rock fortress ...

Not to mention a few mantras & scribblings that were recorded before the darkness descended ... hmmm ... and yet, at such times, many of those 'enlightened' views of the world can sound quite hollow or even delusional ... hmmm ...
Meanwhile, this remarkable DRY spell continues ... I am referring to Melbourne's weather ... forecast is for an entire week of temps around 30 Celsius ...

Slowly going over some scribbled notes from the past few days ...
Ah yes, that mantra about complaining (March 5th) ... I could have elaborated further by saying that complaining is the diametric opposite of being grateful {for the gift of life} ... just as the act of blaming or criticising is the polar opposite of forgiveness ... and the act of judging & labeling your fellow beings is the antithesis of being compassionate ... and as long as the VAST majority of us persist in doing the former rather than the latter ... we'll perpetuate the level of tension & conflict that ultimately impacts upon each of us one way or another ... {the interconnectedness of everything}
Interesting FAQ
From a search of 'sea caves' ... found
this account of a lucky escape in pounding surf in Hawaii ... as well as the sights to be found around Thailand - 'Paddlers Paradise' ...

Received an interesting email from that Elias site ... about manic-depression - session 658 which is NOT listed in their main transcripts list ... hmmm ... I may convert the DOC into a webpage ... click here
And at the same time ... I'm watching a little something on the telly called "All she ever wanted" ... talk about a 'legal minefield' ... whether to give some one Lithium against their wishes when they are pregnant and don't wish to run the risk of the Lithium harming the baby yet experiencing wild, uncontrollable mood swings ... another classic case of it being very easy to be critical when you are NOT the one having to make such a decision or 'resolve' such a situation ...
... not to mention what a tough job for the staff who really want to help but when a person is {temporarily} 'beyond reason' ... waddya do ... reminds me of that excellent article
Temporary Insanity ... but few people currently see it this way ... and even if they do they may not be 'equipped' to handle all the manifestations ...
Cradle Mountain - at a interesting aussie site called ViewPoint
Purchased some interesting stir-fry sauce - 'Bush Tomato Chilli' - the label says that bush tomatoes have a very intense flavour ... I'll let you know my verdict when I make my next stir-fry ... last night I added asparagus and some fried sesame & sunflower seeds ... if I were any healthier I'd be very dangerous ...
They have a website apparently - Australian Native Produce Industries
Kinda reminds me of one of my all-time favourite shows -
The Bush Tucker Man
Received the latest from the 'Beacons of Light' -
here - it's called 'Mr Mike & the magic bicycle' ... idly scanning through it ... my eyes fell upon this passage:
'Some will step and create magically their reality of their highest desire right in front of them. It will happen in the blink of an eye. And then others will continually come up and try to step forward only to find resistance, only to find things not coming together, only to find that it is not creating the way they envisioned. Please do not judge either for that will only retard your own growth. Let us re-mind you that Spiritual Competition was the single most cause leading to the destruction of Atlantis. Those who find increased resistance are people who are in the biggest part of their lesson. These are ones who have chosen to stay long after their contracts have been completed and their shifting will open large doors for everyone on the planet' ...

Today's mantra is especially for all those highly-paid executives out there who might feel there is a little something missing from their lives just at the present moment: "Numbers. Numbers. Numbers. Where are the little numbers of my life." I would recommend this mantra be chanted aloud at the start of all those meetings and conferences which can tend to get a bit stuffy & predictable at times. {Oh, Geoff, you ARE a little devil, aren't you}
... an interesting variation on this mantra is as follows: "Work. Work. Work. I am working on my life."
For those among us who are not highly-paid executives, here is another useful mantra which has been handed down from generation to generation in my family: "I wandered through the world and I said many things to all the people." This one is most effective before and after taking your evening bath or just before going to bed for the night. You might also like to add a little lavender or chamomile oil to your bath to help you relax and unwind. Bear in mind at all times that everything you experience is
Note: as with most mantras, spontaneity and tone of voice can be vital ingredients in determining their effectiveeness. You will have to experiment to find what suits your own individual personality the best. Good Luck.
I think it's safe to say from today's journal that the darkness has well & truly lifted ... for the time being ... though it does puzzle me ... then again most aspects of what I have experienced in the past couple of years pretty much defy any 'logical' explanation ... and honestly at its worst, it IS like being 'possessed' ... and who knows ... maybe ...
... I mean how do you begin to answer such questions as 'why do human beings experience anger & frustration at all' ... why is there such a thing as 'experience' ... why do we have 'ups' & 'downs' ... and why aren't we nicer to our fellow man ... these & other interesting questions will be fully explored during your next several lifetimes. Have fun. I know I will.
Oh yes, I almost forgot ... as I was shoppin today, some kind soul handed me a leaflet about the local 'Living Gospel Assembly' - all about the Holy Spirit & talking in tongues & the Gifts of the Spirit ...
... got my little mind ticking over as I know a few of the ERMHA crowd attend regular Church services ... it's a tricky area - one could imagine a situation where a person is encouraged to stop taking medication as that would indicate they doubt the healing power of God if they continue to rely on the doctor's prescription ... and yet, the reality is most people do not have solid, unequivocal faith ... so they may well be torn ... I suppose the same could e said about any illness physical or psychiatric (or spiritual, which ultimately is the source of the others, IMHO) ...
Today's final mantra was recorded while sitting outside on a balmy autumnal night, listening to the crickets & cicadas chirping:
Yes ... when you look at it, we are very paradoxical creatures. Forever searching for 'the answers' ... yet, at the same time claiming to love the mysteries ...

One good thing about this weather - it's great for grapes ... some delicious ones around at the moment in the shops & markets ... what a pity to take something so sweet and healthy and ferment it ...
... much better to dry them and then make them into sultanas, IMO ...
Had a couple of thoughts about the recent 'high school shootings' in the US ... when you begin to ask 'who is truly responsible?' it's no easy matter ... people like easy answers ... I mean only a TINY percentage of kids who are 'picked on' or ridiculed are ever going to react so explosively ... then you have the question of who ACTUALLY perpetuates this attitude of picking on those who are 'different' rather than embracing them as members of a vast & diverse human family ... hmmm ...
... yes, my mind goes back to some of that stuff I wrote a while ago about 'genuine self-esteem' and if you have a whole soceity where people feel as if they have to constantly 'earn' the affection or respect or 'approval' of others ... then you is going to have a few hiccups ... yet one can imagine a situation where everyone is so tuned in to their true nature that there is no question as to each individual having (& experiencing) unconditional worth ... but we aint there JUST yet ... and there are times I wonder ... I mean how can parents possibly pass something on if they never experienced it themselves ...
A number of 'random' thoughts popped in & out of my mind as I walked home from the shops. Anyone reading these words may care to use any or all of these as mantras. I don't mind at all. That's fine by me. I would never presume to claim 'ownership' of any particular idea or thought or insight. Here are a few of them:
{Some of these mantras may seem a bit silly at first ... until you let go of your inhibitions}
"That which we can understand with our everyday rational mind is merely the surface appearance of reality. It is not reality itself. Any conclusions we may derive from such a limited understanding are not to be taken too seriously."
"Once you experience ultimate reality, it is hard to feel terribly perturbed by all the little dramas of the everyday world."
"How old were you when your thoughts first became available?"
"I'm not that interested in the whole thought process. Thoughts are a distraction. One must bring one's mind to an absolute standstill in order to truly experience reality ... unfiltered & uninterpreted ... pure & simple ..."
"All the mystics keep telling us there is literally nothing in this world that we need to worry about ... so, why don't we believe them ..."
"People keep expecting governments to come up with solutions to our social problems. There is one simple reason for all our social problems - the lack of real love in the world. I don't see that governments have much capacity to improve that situation. It's up to each individual to identify the reasons which prevent them from truly loving everyone they encounter. It's actually the only reason we are on this planet, in case you were wondering ..."
"I was born towards the melting of Jesus ... the melting of lifetimes ... the melting of candles ..."
"Get me down from the getting. Get me down from the getting of lives." {repeat six times}
{Some of you who may be tempted to ask, "How can THAT possibly work!?" All I can say is in reply is, "Trust me." Trust is a very important part of the experience of being human.}
A few more absorbing emails about a range of aspects of the human experience {including psychosis & drugs & scuba diving & reincarnation & meditation etc} ... interestingly, on the radio this morning I listened to a fabulous description by the Australian astronaut, Andy Thomas about what it's like to lift-off in the shuttle and then reach the weightlessness of orbit. Now that's something I wouldn't mind trying. I have heard of other astronauts describing what a profound experience it was to see the earth from the moon or from orbit. One of them founded the Noetic Institute.
Click here for a description from Andy himslef ...
I may transcribe portions of those emails ... I did write the following: 'I have read that the main reason most of us have no real recollection of our past lives is that we made such a hash of them that it would be a crushing burden to carry around the memories of all those 'failures'. I think reincarnation is a much more plausible 'explanation' than the idea we pas this way just once. However, I think the ultimate picture of human experience is more multi-faceted and multi-dimensional than the traditional idea of reincarnation would suggest.' ...
Checking out a few more of those Aussie links ...
I came across this site has some excellent pics - but rather large ... he says Melb has THE best botanical gardens anywhere ... now, who am I to disagree with that ... speaking of gardens in Australia ... I found there is a Public Garden Webring -
click for a random site
Dog pictures bulletin board - I like 'couch mouse' but your tastes may vary ...
Seems that Elias email was just a 'coincidink' because today # 659 arrives ... about "Impossibility Becomes Possible" & "Altering Physical Manifestations" & "Duplicity — A Method of Evaluation" & "You Are The Creator AND The Creation" ... may decide to turn it into a HTM page ...
I played a bit more of one of my favourite games today. Namely, watching a soap opera and imagining all the script alterations that would be required if any or all of the characters 'suddenly became a Buddhist' ... it's fun ... I highly recommend it ...
... yes the idea that nobody can make you angry (or depressed or whatever) without your consent ... the idea of not taking anything personally ... the idea of unconditional love - even to those who you perceive as being your 'enemy' for some reason ... the cultivation of boundless compassion for all beings ... and forgiveness ... very few soapy scripts seem to incorporate these ideas ... sadly, many human lives seem not to include them either ... [Not to mention the seemingly endless confusion between the experience of love and the experience of attachment]
... a similar exercise can be conducted while watching/listening to most 'pop' songs ...

Just had an idea for a nice sandwich - Burgen Soy & Linseed bread plus Bush Tomato & Chilli sauce plus some sprouts - I have NO idea how it might taste ... but I shall soon find out ...
I get the funniest ideas into this head of mine ... standing in a queue at the supermarket ... I wondered what reaction in that or indeed any 'social' situation you'd get if you decided to be absolutely honest ... saying things such as "You know, I quite enjoy looking at pictures of women in their underwear" etc ... when you look at it, 'normal behaviour' is a microscopic set of behaviours out of the absolutely infinite range one could imagine ... they do say if you were honest ALL the time you'd have no friends at all ... but I wonder IF that's true ...
... and yet we are conditioned to evaluate those we encounter against this arbitrary standard we call 'normality' and then decide if someone is 'normal' or 'weird' or 'crazy' or whatever ... and we generally react with fear or suspicion when we encounter anything which ventures sufficiently far away from the claustrophobic region we have labelled as 'noramlity' ... it's so sad ...
Ah ... just noticed that Google has the option of 'search within results' - so you can progressively narrow down the search ... neat!
... and using said technique ... found this ... first ever image of someone else 'crazy' enough to do what I did many years ago {and I reckon even at 42 I could still do it!} -

Yes, somehow the 'gap' looks wider on my photo ... just goes to show ... some of the other photos of the Grampians region are worth a lookie as well ... it's a great spot for doing a spot of rock climbing if you ever get the chance to visit.
Just found out Google can do anudder neat trick - 'instantly' translate pages - one of the Grampians accounts was in German ... will wonders never cease?
... actually, reading over the 'translation' ... hmmm ... a bit like those classic examples of translating Japanese or Korean instructions into English ... but better than nothing because I don't speak German at all ... I just look at the pictures ... :)
... click here to see what I am yabbering on about ... I have climbed this mountain and its name is quite appropriate! The photos are excellent.
... and here for some of those 'classic instructions' ...
A bit more idle wandering takes me to the Internet schoolhouse as well as Just for kids - includes a tic-tac-toe game where you can specify the size of the board and how many in a row to win ... devilishly tough to beat!
Warning - if you feel as if you may be prone to computer rage don't play this game! :)
Today's beautiful mantra is another traditional prayer from the native inhabitants of the Dandenong psychiatric hospital: "I have experienced reality many times throughout the course of my life. What is reality anyway? We all use the word as if we know what it means? Is reality the everyday world of the senses and the experiences that corporeal beings on this planet are aware of? Is reality limited to this physical realm that we can perceive with our five senses? Or is it more? Much more? Unimaginably more? Last night I dreamed I was a butterfly. Today, am I a butterfly dreaming I'm a human? On the weekend, my folks are planning to run around the house chanting and dancing and making some noise. In the beginning, nothing had a name but now everything has changed." {It's okay to recite this mantra from a piece of paper but it's much nicer if you take the time & effort and energy to commit it to memory}

A very welcome cool change but still precious little rain in sight ... 72 days in a row over 20 (Celsius) is a new record ... including 5 in a row over 30 in March ... and no 'recorded' rain in over a month in the city ... yet at the very same time, parts of northern New South Wales are in flood ... what a pity we don't spend more time on developing & refining our telekinetic abilities ... :)
... and the 7-day forecast suggests that record sequence will extend to at least 79 ... and last evening, it really did feel strange to have to put on a jumper & long pants once the cooler air arrived ...
Quote of the day: "Dolphins find pregnant women paticularly fascinating." That comes from watching a BBC documentary called 'Supernatural', which explored the ways in which animals & insects & other creatures have senses which can differ greatly from those of human beings. Many have finely-tuned senses which are either a vast improvement on what ours are like or are indeed 'extra sensory perception' in that they go beyond what our five senses do, such as detecting the electrical field or 'aura' that surrounds living creatures. Quite fascinating. And ties in rather nicely with a couple of recent mantras. The full title was "Supernatural: The unseen powers of animals" ... and not just animals - apparently leaves when they are being eaten by browsing animals (like giraffes) send off a chemical 'distress' signal which alerts nearby trees and within a relatively short time span they alter the chemical composition of their leaves to a more toxic level and thus the animals move off to browse elsewhere. Amazing. Plus they said that indoor plants can definitely be encouraged to thrive by gentle touch or voice vibrations. Something I woulda laughed at not so long ago. Just goes to show.
The unseen powers of animals
Review of the book
Interesting article on dogs
Think like an animal
That reminds me of another great doco I taped a while back exploring the consciousness of animals ... and a quick search leads me to
Angel Animals ...
Been doing quite a bit of contemplating various things lately. Especially all the 'stuff' we tend to take totally for granted. For instance, yesterday evening while I was filling the bath, I suddenly pondered the three distinct states in which matter can exist. Especially the liquid state, since water is a liquid at 'room temperature' {unless you happen to live in an exceedingly cold room}. We need all three states, yet we rarely give it a second thought. Just think what a mess our bodies would be in if all the various liquids inside them were no longer in a physical state where they are able to flow. And let's face it, without our bodies, where would we be?
Yes, when you think about it, liquid is an intermediary state of existence between solid and vapour ... just as human life is an intermediary state of existence ...
Other contemplations are more 'silent' and cannot be adequately conveyed using tools as severely limited as human languge ...
Update on yesterday's sandwich idea - yep, not bad at all, even if the bread was a day old ... :)
Had a bit of a search with Google and found a bit more on
William Ricketts & his sanctuary ... must get back there soon ... google DID pick up my poem & excerpt of his philosophy and a poetry site where I sent the poem ... it's a fine search engine, no doubt about that whatsoever ... when I did a search a year or so ago, using another search engin, I found very little about the sanctuary ... in fact, the 'links' section consisted of just my poem and the site at
www.festivale.webcentral.com.au ... now it has grown somewhat ... :)
www.angelfire.com/wv/geoall/rick3.html
Here is link to a PDF version of one of the brochures ... you'll need to have Adobe Acrobat installed in order to view it ... if not, I used a screen capture program to capture these images of it -
Image 1
Image 2
Image 3
... and maybe when I next visit the sanctuary I shall purchase that excellent book they have on sale about William Ricketts & his work & philosophy ... stay tuned ... :)
One final word on the sanctuary - it was most definitely a group experience, which may be gathered from the way I wrote the poem and gave due 'credit' to all the others who were there with me ... I have subsequently returned and enjoyed the place but never QUITE in the same way ... and I don't think Dijana will mind if I say that she also has returned with a 'different' group of people and found the experience didn't quite match what she had been 'expecting' based on that day with THAT group ... just goes to show you ... so what our experiences as human beings will be like when we decide to let go of centuries of nonsense and conflict and really tune into who we are ... words cannot begin to describe ...
... well, not quite the last word ... it's nearly two years since that 'little trip' ... and some great photos were taken ... one where I was staring up into the eyes of one of the figures ... yet, everytime I asked about those photos nobody seemed to know what happened to them ... oh well ... such is life ... anyway, the desire to 'capture' a 'special' moment on film is something we ought to examine to see if it's ultimately a healthy activity to be contemplating ... {Also, at some stage, I ought to scan that ERMHA Murmur version of the poem where I did spread the 'credit' around ...}
Another interesting search -

Yet another
Then I found a site which reminded me of some of the ideas I put into
'My Ideal Day Program' - that also seems a LONG time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ... click here to see what I'm rabbiting on about ... yes, Memphis and the other people I included into my 'vision' ... hmmm ...
In celebration of trees
Continuing the same general theme ... I found these
climbing quotes - some humorous, some serious ... that site actually has some lovely pics of Tassie at least ... worth a look ...
The Reader's Vine - book reviews, discussion and over 1700 web links ... I could submit a few of my reviews/opinions on some mind-blowing books! ... a quick seacrh revealed not a mention of James Twyman or Neale Walsch ... hmmm ... maybe they're INTO different kinds of books ...

With the arrival of this cooler weather, finally a chance to do some work outside in the backyard. Though mowing the grass is somewhat less demanding once it dies off! Surprisingly, a few patches of the couch grass are still quite green. It's as tough as nails!
Found a couple more links about the sanctuary - this one says there are night walks from April to September ... PITY the buses tend to stop running fairly early in the evenings ... oh well, mustn't grumble ...
... and if you never thought you'd see the name of William Ricketts mentioned on the same page as Atlantis, crystal skulls, channeling and crop circles ...
click here ... I like the title of the magazine ... and yet, on the other hand, our use of language does tend to colour our perceptions of reality. Using a word like 'kindred' implies that there are those who are NOT 'kindred' ...
Just to prove I really am human ... I almost lost my cool while watching the final episode of Susan Greenfield's 'Brian Story' series. It was an interesting exploration of some deep questions but the 'agenda' seemed to be from the outset that one can 'explain' ALL of human experience in terms of the electrical and chemical happenings inside the brain. Um ... am I the only one who sees that the REAL question is to ask WHO or WHAT is behind all this brain activity? Or is she suggesting ... I'm not really sure what she is suggesting ...
Interestingly, just after the show finished I went online and added a couple more to those
William Ricketts links ... and one page also has this classic response to all scientific enquiry or the materialistic worldview: 'meditation is the answer to all the questions you have ever asked' ... {click} ... I did 'catch' myself at various times ... by remembering that the practice of nonjudgement entails allowing everyone to have their own 'picture' of the way reality works ... and NOT to make it 'personal' when along comes somebody who sees the world in very different ways ... and not to put them or their views down in any way ... yes, nonjudgement is a real toughie ...
... many people find it next-door to impossible ... keeping disagreements from becoming 'heated' is a rare, rare thing ... especially when we are talking about the BIG questions ... {and the idea of what is 'big' is in the eye of the beholder} ...
... of course, Dave's mate, the Daily Lama, would probably smile & refer to this process as 'inner disarmament' ... {click} - one of those results is at a the Quaker Peace Centre ... Dave would get a kick out of that ... I love their 'peace' graphic:
... I mean no amount of poking & probing and 'recording the various chemical & electrical events in a person's brain will shed any real light on the question as to who or what is behind all that activity ... I mean it's a fairly obvious question to ask WHAT is generating all that activity ...
Then I went and had a nice hot bath ... and it occurs to me - all human conflict is the direct result of misplaced focus. Attaching more importance to something than it merits ... in the case of heated arguments it is making the difference of opinion more important than the soul's desire to love everyone you encounter ... hmmm ... if you look at it like that ... like I wrote a few months back, "Why does it bother you?" {if someone has a very different interpretation of 'reality' than you currently have settled upon ...}
[That last section needs a little polishing and reworking but I'm convinced there's a good idea in there somwhere, just screaming to get out]
Must remember to clear out the gutters ... on second thought, maybe I should leave the autumn leaves in there to encourage it to rain ... or leave something out in the yard that I really wouldn't want to get wet ...
Just found this little ditty which I wrote down during one of my visits to the Museum:
Whenever you're feeling sad or a little bit depressed,
Just stick an angry scorpion onto your chest,
Watch it closely as it dashes around,
Be careful not to make any sudden sound.
Use this link if you wish to send someone an email postcard of the beautful Fraser Island. I know I did. Pity I can't check any responses at the moment as hotmail has been inaccessible for three days! I will have to get to another computer just to see if the problem is at their end or at my end. Since I can surf the rest of the web with no dramas, you'd have to say it's most likely at their end ... must send them an email ...

After some recent emails ... all of a sudden I feel the urge to compile a list of descriptions of
mystical experiences ... I like the one about 'The Multi-Dimensional Hitch-hiker's Guide to Unity Consciousness' & their
Characteristics of moving closer to your DIVINE SELF ... most are so SPOT on ... like those lists in Conversations with God that say 'That is also a very good sign' ... even when in the midst of doubt & confusion ... also on that page is a great section on moving beyond 'belief' into direct experience, which is what I've 'always' said ...
I also like the article
Schizophrenic Visions as Manifestations of the Collective Unconscious ... but I MAY just be a bit biassed ...
An unusual Test match ... cruising at 1/190 or so ... lose 7/76 including a {dubious} hat-trick ... now over 80 for the ninth wicket ... it IS a funny game ... now an unbroken one hundred partnership ... two commentators were discussing India's tactics - one said he didn't think they had a 'Plan B' when things go other than as expected. The other commentator said, "Plan B? I don't think they have plan A!" ... yes, sport as in life in general - expectations can be self-fulfilling prophecies - yet it is ALWAYS an assumption to believe that things will continue basically as they have in the {recent} past ...
... and having just tuned into the evening news ... it's probably one of those times the bowler wishes he was living in the days before video replays, where he could spin a nice yarn about how he took his hat-trick ... the first 'LBW' was going down past leg stump, the second one pitched outside leg stump and was also probably an edge, and the catch was probably a 'bump' ball ... hmmm ... a case could be made for 'neutral' umpires ... then again, it all depends on how much importance you choose to attach to such matters ... guess who guided the tail so ably that 175 were compiled for the last two wickets ...
{hint}
The sequence was almost curtailed - yesterday morning heavy overcast and blustery cold wind ... the sun making a belated appearance ... and it barely nudged 20 (bearing in mind that the 'official' maximum is always a shade temperature - today was one of those days where it was much warmer in the sunlight)
Watched an excellent program about the newly opened National Museum in Canberra. Some very imaginative & interactive features ... pity they had to build it in aplace like ... Geoff, some people have very nice things t say about Canberra ...
Yesterday was also the annual
Moomba Parade
Added even more links to the Ricketts file ... as I extended the general theme ... aboriginal sites ... sacred sites ... other aussie sights ... Native wisdom for white minds ... plus an interesting site from the title of his biography called
"White Fella Dreaming"
{Warning: Go into the kitchen and make yourself a nice cup of something while this page loads! It has a fairly large graphic content!}

The unusual Test continues ... both teams putting over 40 for their tenth wicket and in India's case it is the highest partnership of the innings! 270 behind but I absolutely would NOT have enforced the follow-on. With over 17 hours of play left it is quite possible the bowlers could flag in the heat or encounter an innings of sheer genius by Tendulkar (or somebody else entirely) and you could be looking at one of those awkward 4th innings chases on a deteriorating pitch ... I mean unless rain is forecast, you can just go in again and compile anything over about 150 or so makes the required target beyond anything that the game has ever seen ... we shall see what the conventional 'wisdom' yields ...
... and I'm feeling a little like Cassandra already as I hear that India is 0/45 in their second dig ... and even more so when they are 280 ahead with 6 wickets still standing! and only one wicket captured in the past 440 runs ... and ALL that even with only a minor contribution from Tendulkar ...
... it has an eerily similar 'feel' about it to a match played in 1981 in Headingley which few people will forget ... not quite as 'miraculous' as in that case, England was still 92 behind when their 7th wicket fell in the second innings after following on ... still ...
Saw in the library an interesting book about past-life therapy by Brian Weiss but didn't actually decide to borrow it, so that's about all I can tell you at this stage.
They showed the classic
'Marine Biologist' episode of Seinfeld yet again ... I love all his stuff but some of them are absolute gems ...
Thought of several book excerpts that could be added to yesterday's list of 'mystical experiences' ... one of which, I haven't gotten around to transcribing even after 18 months or so. Here's a couple of scans of the section where he describes expansion of consciousness and his own experiences -
Pages 208 & 9
Pages 210 & 11
... may even transcribe other bits at some stage - a scanner does make one rather lazy ... such as the chapter on 'What is a human being' ... and karma etc etc ...
Plus did another ferret around and found a few quotes from that book I read along, long time ago ...
Escape Attempts: The theory & practice of resistance to everyday life. I believe this was the very first book I read which questioned the conventional view of 'normality' versus 'madness' ... I vaguely remember one quote was along the lines of 'And we see this as something to be cured??' when speaking about people who are experiencing 'madness' ...
Could also scan or transcribe that chapter from 'The Politics of Experience', which has a fabulous 'case study' ... that was the first book I encountered that suggested the experience of 'schizophrenia' might be seen in a very different light ... click
... and found some interesting Laing links while compiling a list of Some books I have read to be added as a link to yesterday's efforts ... I have been a busy little boy ...
I don't have the Laing book in my possession at the moment {Well, it's not a bad 'swap' when you consider I have Dave's 'The Good Heart'} but from those photocopies I plug a few choice phrases into Google ... phrases such as: 'The person who has entered this inner realm' & 'No age in the history of humanity has perhaps so host touch with this natural 'healing' process, that implicates some of the people whom we label schizophrenic' & 'personal self had grown porous'
Then a few more ...
'the wringing of success from somebody's failure'
& 'the schizophrenic may simply be someone who has been unable to suppress his normal instincts and conform to an abnormal society'
& 'He has embarked upon a voyage of discovery which is only completed by his return to the normal world, to which he comes back with insights different from those of the inhabitants who never embarked on such a voyage'
...
... it's interesting to look back on the 'stuff' that has 'shaped' your thinking & view of the world ... and yet, as Orwell said in 1984, the best books are those which tell you what you already know ... otherwise how could you ever have a reaction such as 'Aha! That's it!' ...
... it seems google can find ANYTHING that is out there ... and so I compile the Laing results
here ...
... and to continue the theme ... found a few excerpts/reviews of that book
The Undiscovered Mind ... which I might get around to actually reading one day ... the start of one chapter does delve into a desription of a 'transcendent' experience the author had and has struggled to explain/describe ... join the club!
Today's mantra comes to us from the vast regions of interstellar space:
"My little doctor warned me all about the world of lifetimes"
Played a bit more Deep Purple and continue to be amazed at his vocal gymnastics ...

Today's mantra was also scribbled hurriedly onto the TV guide in recent days:
Yes, being reminded that Laing quote about non-competitive cultures and 'the wringing of success from somebody's failure' is timely given the focus of some of my recent journal entries ...
... though one statistical oddity is worth a mention - three of the four days have seen ZERO wickets fall during the pre-lunch session ... indicates the trueness of the pitch ...which further reinforces my statements of a couple of days ago about the follow-on ... oh well, it's character building to experience a totally unexpected 'defeat' every now and then ... and the next Test is very soon after this one ...
Decided I might as well add a few of Osho's thoughts on the difference between bliss and pleasure to that list of descriptions of mystical experiences ... he mentions a Zen master named
Hakuin as being able to 'express the inexpressible' ... maybe worth a google ... :)
... plus his classic piece on the biggest question of them ALL ...
What is Love? and found a couple more Osho links ... Carol would be pleased ... :)
One more rarity - an entire day's play without losing a wicket - coming on the fourth day of the match - this wicket is getting better if anything which 'defies' the usual way-of-things ... I mean has a team ever begun a follow-on early on day three and then gone into day five with only four down?? ... one wonders ...
Though I do have a leaning toward one of the descriptions I found yesterday in my meanderings.
Walter Stace argues that the mystical experience is "utterly without content and therefore indescribable, incommunicable (and) ineffable" ... in other words, what value is a 'description' if the person has nothing 'comparable' to measure the experience against ...
In light of recent emails and my attempts to describe expereinces/encounters ... I found
this site which describes the kind of 'gazing' I was talking about ...
An interesting little session at the local library tosses up these sites, a few of which could be added to my recent pages:
Kenneth Wapnick schizophrenia and mysticism
Maslow peak experiences
Watcher on the hills - USED alltheweb for a change ...
Great list of the benfits of meditation
As a final (?) word on the match ... click here ... :)
Interesting article in The Age this morning - if it's not at their site I may decide to
scan it - entitled, "When children kill, we have failed"
A further refinement of some of the above searches takes me to:

Plus this interesting selection of correspondence regards the life & works of Krishnamurti -
click here - I like the quote at the bottom of the page!
Finally, I decided to poke my head in at the good 'ol

Click here for a cropped & enlarged scan of our family gathering last Christmas. I found out quite by 'accident' that the scanning software can do such things ... and NO distortion really ... will wonders never cease ... nice photo - pity I'm in the shadows up the back ...
... but it is an extreme rarity to capture everyone in a 'good light' when taking a group shot ...
