A spinning prayer wheel

A few sheets of scribbles I aint yet typed up ... interestin stuff at forum - a counter-view posted abt breatharianism ... I'd use the analogy of flying a plane ... or better still composing a symphony that stirs the soul ... the fact that a particular human being failed in their efforts does not in itself mean that nobody is capable of doing what they were attempting ... clumsy phraseology but ya know what I mean ... :)

That's precisely why Jesus & Budhha & others are so famous. They manifested potential which the vast majority of humanity have yet to manifest consciously ... just as, in theory, most people have the potential to learn to fly a jumbo. But without following the correct steps in preparation, they're likely to crash ... :)

Hey, why not post that ... :)

... or indeed climbing Mt Everest ...

... and I do as 60243

Anne Elk - suddenly popped into my mind today - haven't listened to it in ages ... :)

That 'Normal Personality Disorder' site - is in an autism webring - some of which are worth a peek ... click

Mira email - I really ought to convert that huge DOC file to HTM - a series of chapters ... Word should be able to do that ...

A place where you can submit your site ... :)

Quite tempted to post this but then I was disconnected ... a sign?? :)

Can you clear up what you mean by 'really stupid' ? You reckon living on light would be stupid? Um, I don't see how. Think about how much of human activity ultimately is motivated by the need to feed the stomach. How much energy is expended holding down a job to 'feed the family', how many animals is killed for carnivores to sustain their bodily functions, how many people work at jobs they hate so they can continue to eat ...

Actually, I think at this stage of human history, most people would be so frightened of what to do with all that freed up time & energy they'd rather keep on plugging away doing what human beings have been doing for countless centuries and believing what human beings have been believing for countless centuries. {I mean from a purely biological point of view, a human being is simply a device for turning food into shit.}

On reflection, your 'really stupid' remark probably referred to those who died in the attempt. Well, it all depends on how you view death. If you see it as walking out of one room & into another, then dying is hardly stupid. Some might say going through an entire lifetime believing that reality begins and ends with the three-dimensonal physical universe & what you can see touch and detect with your five senses is 'really stupid'. :)

And BTW, if you were truly serious about practicising nonjudgement, you'll have to forget words like 'stupid' or 'weird' or 'ridiculous'. Each of these words represents a judgement. These labels only exist within the mind of the beholder. Reality is an interpretation. :)

Namaste

And I know I used to be an atheist but why devote one microwatt of your attention to whether others believe somethin you regard as nutsy ... if they are happy beleieving in fairies at the bottom of the garden why concern yourself at all ... :) Jealousy? Fear?

And yes, I do realise the exquisite irony of the above statement as it could equally be applied to my reply ... :) As with almost all debates, they run the grave danger of degenerating into 'point scoring' ...

Yes, it's an almost universl human characteristic to reserve your fondest sentiments & thoughts for those whose views most closely correlate with one's own. Another good reason to practise nonattachment, part of which is defenselessness - the relinquishing of ALL desire to defend any particular point-of-view. Almost as hard as living on light. You gotta laugh ...

Today's mantra: "I want people to sing to me with no nonsense in their lives"

Converted Mira's book to htm and opened an account at dreamwater - a bit misleading. They said 'no popup ads' BUT there is an ad at the top of each page ... oh well ...

Walter by Mira.

60277 - the 'seek' link and his wonderful quote - "If you find something here that you disagree with, just let it go. I am not interested in controversy or sectarianism of any kind." :)

New Laing link - here

Today's mantra: "I used to believe in all the medical glimpses of relaity"

More random dialogue ...

"If you enjoy getting (or feeling) angry, then by all means continue to do it. I don't figure too many people would describe anger as an enjoyable experience but it is a marvelous weapon. Anger is a very powerful tool if you are interested in manipulating the human beings around you. It's an age-old human tradition.

"I have a newsflash for you. I'm not actually on this planet to be whatever you believe I should be ... that's something most parents never understand ..."

From a couple of days ago - TOTAL trust in the universe would mean selling the PC as well, then what would become of the forum ... :)

And on that psychiatry discussion - yes, I agree with that Seth faber assessment of the current mental health system. As long as you see human experience (esp human distress/crisis) solely in terms of biological malfunction then you're not doing anyone any favours (no pun intended). With such a view of reality, your FIRST resort will be to medicate. I believe medication ought to be a very LAST resort ...

Plus that Darwin awards site and the gene pool - Yes, I'm waiting for the day when a scientist identifies the gene which predisposes an individual to believing that human behaviour and experience is largely genetically determined.

... not to mention the gene for kindness ... or unconditional love ... or compassion ... versus apathy, cynicism, normality ... :)

Interesting segment on Burke's Backyard - outdoor lights by cutting a plastic milk container in half, put in enough sand to support a small candle ... a better 'effect' than you might at first imagine ... (much like the benefits of meditation?)

Candles

60288 ... :) ... worth transcribing here? ... and 60289 ...

There were a couple of insulting posts ... felt sorely tempted to post along the lines of 'Only the truly hollow & joyless feel the need to insult their fellow beings.' ... (which in itself could be construed ... this inner disarmament stuff is real tricky, isn't it!) I mean doesn't the Dalai lama speak of seeing an 'enemy' as a great blessing as it opens the opportunity to practice tolerance, patience, forgiveness etc and not just indulge the eye-for-an-eye tradition ...

... and those who get their jollies from provoking ...

and I gave in to temptation ... :(

Found this and a few others while hunting for 'various links' to include in what may be the most memorable (though that depends on the attitude of the udience or beholder, one has to admit) post ever ?? - fun quotes

Along with Elias 'random' quotes, John Lennon lyrics, puppies, William Ricketts, and mor stuff that just popped into my emptied mind as I walked this morning on quite a pleasant day for June in Oz ...

* Lin onus - see sep file - get his book next time in museum shop ... though it has to be said that a photo on a book can never quite reproduce the effect of a painting which may be 2 or 3 metres in length! ... just like the memory of an experience never quite reproduces the actual experience ...

Posted 60329 & 30 ... as 'belated links of the days' ... :)

Plus saw one post from another agreeing with my observations abt attempts to 'persuade' others ... and learning things the hard way ... yes, we humans do seem rather thick! I honestly don't know anyone who has learned anything significant except through painful, direct personal experience. It would seem that the only way anyone can learn that judging & blaming & being cynical & condemning & complaining & indulging in rage, jealousy etc are dead ends is by experiencing what life is like doing those things, then after a period a light bulb comes on and you say to yourself, "Hey, this is pretty stupid. I might see if I can let go of all this nonsense." {Needs a fair bit of work on the phrasing but you get the gist, I hope ...}

Yes, I doubt if too many human individuals have ever learned anything in a harder fashion than I did ... looking back, it is quite astonishing I never actually destroyed myself or alienated everyone around me, I was so filled with what Gary so perfectly describes as 'rage against the universe' ... and whatever I learned must have been on some microscopic or subliminal level because as destructive as that rage was, I don't recall ever consciousy deciding to change it ... to transform that energy ... I'm ever-so-grateful it did turn around but then i see so many who seem permanently locked into either rage mode or victim mode or both and I gotta admit it's awfully perplexing and maybe I should just be grateful & shut up already ... :)

Hmmm ... testing that Random link generator ... it would seem its behaviour is less than impartial? some links kept popping up a seemingly inordinate no. of times while others never got a look in ... hmmm ... in FACT, result # 92 (out of 100) popped up maybe 6 times within 30 or 40 attempts which is statistically way above what you might expect ... and it's an interesting page at that! {click}

Interesting day - more talk of schiophrenia & magnetic stimulation of the brain - reminded me of oh, what was the scientist's name who said he had siccessfully 'reproduced' anomalous experiences like alien abduction or spiritual experiences by placing magnets near people's brains. Um, yes, but how does that actually 'explain' why those experiences happen when you haven't got magnets strapped to your scone! ... :)

www.angelfire.com/wv/geoall/paul666.html

Later in day I post 60332 & 333 ... interesting numbers ... :) I had intended to only post one ...

... now if I was TRULY practising nonattachment ... I would not even sneak a peek to see what the audience reaction is to one of my more 'memorable' efforts ... I mean true nonattachment to the idea of approval/disapproval would mean being EXACTLY as happy with a strong +ve response or a strong negative one or indeed if the reaction is indifference ... :) I aint 'there' just yet ... but I've had some wonderful glimpses ...

Did a Google search - ah yes, the guy's name is Michael Persinger !

Interestingly, he says, 'The fact that we can actually insert a God experience does not change the fact that the process is there for some functional or evolutionary reason. If one accepts that God created the universe, then why not have a brain mechanism whereby these experiences take place?'

{I had had the impression his experiement was to 'debunk' the spiritual experiences people have}

Interesting email about recent events ... here's the gist of some of what I said ...

I have not yet stuck my head back in to see what the reactions of people might have been. It's entirely everyone's prerogative to experience whatever reaction he/she wishes to have. Believe me, I know precisely where he/she is coming from. I used to do the same or worse to those I disagreed with. I'm so glad I've let go of that nonsense but each individual has to come to that realisation in their own unique way. Mine sure was different, to say the least.

And I'm dead serious in saying it's a perfect opportunity to practice unconditional acceptance. It's easy to like those who are pleasant and agreeable and charming. It just takes a bit of extra focus to feel the same way towards those who would mock or belittle us or who are hostile in their reactions. And these days, I am improving in that area of directing my focus. Though I still have my moments of forgetfulness ... which just gives others an opportunity to decide if they prefer forgiveness or something else ...

Now, if I were completely nonattached, I wouldn't even check the forum 'reaction'. I have half a mind to do just that. Then again, one could say nonattachment would mean reading the reactions and maintaining equanimity. Boy, I really am a master at arguing BOTH sides of the same coin ... ??

BTW, I hope people find the links interesting. I figured even if they were totally mystified by MY content, they might enjoy a couple of the links. :)

If someone is saying it was ego-driven, that's hardly news to me! I hesitated to post it for that very reason - it could be seen as classic attention-seeking behaviour ... so don't encourage me by saying how amazing it was ... and it is a valid question to ask whenever we speak or act - what's the true motivation behind it ...

Maybe, on a subconscious level, I did it precisely to have the oportunity of choosing NOT to be affected by any 'flack' it may have created. (I mean if I were concerned about possible negative feedback, I would have heavily censored it so as to not leave myself WIDE open to such negative or mocking responses ) Bearing in mind, the post in itself is absolutely NEUTRAL. Just wrds on a page. Any individual's reaction to it may not be so neutral ... :) Reality really is an interpretation.

And if I am indeed serious about letting go ... and relinquishing ALL desire to defend a point of view, then I must say nothing! ... :)

At the risk of labouring the point ... back when I was an absolute atheist, it used to absolutely INFURIATE me if they didn't 'bite' in reponse to my barbs and came back with 'Jesus loves you' or something similar ... though often the tone was 'Jesus loves you, EVEN if i reckon you're an absolute jerk' ...

... and I used to perceive it as a 'victory' if they did respond less-than-kindly ... and sadly, that mentality is not exactly uncommon at this point in the evolution of human beings ...

{Yes, those three little words do hold a LOT of wisdom - 'Love Thy Enemy' - you can't even begin to do it until you let go of a whole lotta crap that has been lurking in your mind for untold periods of time }

... I mean if one man can say "forgive them for they know not what they do' after being tortured and nailed to a crucifix ...

On the lighter side? ... some of the links on the 'MindWarp' link above look worthy of fuller investigation ...

At the risk of really labouring the earlier point ... on the other hand, one could argue that karma works in subtle ways. Choices have consequences and the soul only evolves by experiencing the results of its various choices. And one of the consequences of habitually mocking, belittling, being hostile towards those whom you disagree with is that you'll alienate MOST people unless they closely align with your point-of-view ... and thus you'll tend to be surrounded by equally cynical souls and after a while that does tend to get a bit stale ... because the really joyful, warm-hearted souls may have compassion for you but you're unlike;y to be terribly high on their list of people to spend time with ... unless they are absolute saints and have returned to this planet for that specific purpose ...

More ... carol666.html

Thanks for the feedback. Personally, I felt the post was hilarious in many areas. Just goes to show that reality really is an interpretation and that different people have different filters. :)

Maybe I'm more easily amused than most. I sure laugh a LOT more now that I have let go of judgement & expectation & cynicism & certainty & all that kind of nonsense.

Here's a link which explains the concept of humour to those who may be unfamiliar with it ...

Thanks also for another opportuntiy to practice equanimity. Like most humans, I have this natural tendency to reserve my fondest feelings for those who are agreeable & pleasant and charming. Thanks for another wonderful opportunity to challenge that tendency ...

And when you look at it, it really is excellent feedback. If I feel the slighest impulse to 'retaliate', even if it's humorous or sarcastic, that tells me that my 'inner disarmament' is not quite complete ... :)

Yes, 100 links and none of them mentions Deepak ... oh, except maybe that Bipolar Road to Freedom link ...

(a) Do ALL adjectives represent judgements in the mind of the beholder ... hmmm ... beautiful, stupid, crazy, boring, exciting, ridiculous, stale, monstrous, pathetic, disgusting, weird, ...

A few days away from my home PC ... not necessarily a bad thing ... :)

Quite a few notes scribbled on scraps of paper I will eventually get to ... and an interesting new book 'El Nino' ...

As I listened to the radio in bed Friday morn ... the followin popped into my head for some reason - "I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you this time. I'm not biting. What I posted was words. What you posted in reply was words. If we allow mere words to prevent us from loving each other then we are very silly creatures."

One could even argue that my post opened up a superb opportunity for various people to transcend their rather knee-jerk reactions ... hmmm ...

Going over a couple more Osho links ... found this Meditation Handbook. Yes, just when you figure you've justa bout read everything that could be said on the subject ... some excellent tips & ideas ... including the observation that a method that may be 'unusable' just now may be quite powerful in the (near) future ...

Checking my 'random link' - first of today was Sacred Mirrors ...

Ah yes, it seems a while since I scribbled this down (ironic in the light of the past couple of days ) ...

If you want a really challenging meditation, think of somebody who you really disapprove of in some way & are sorely tempted to condemn or belittle or diminish or mock or castigate in some way ... and imagine those feelings being transformed to warm ones ... it's often a real toughie ... in fact it's something most people might live an entire lifetime & never devote any serious contemplation to ...

{One powerful incentive is the promise in Conversations with God, 'That which you condemn, you will one day become.' - because if you can conemn it you need to experience it first-hand to know just what it's like ...}

Also seems a while since I scribbled this gem - (no names needed) - There are few guarantees in this life. However, I can absolutely guarantee that as long as you hold onto derogatory labels with regards your fellow beings, there will be no true joy flowing through you. If you experience ANY joy at all, it will be in those moments when you are not attaching derogatory labels to those you happen to disapprove of ...

Plus the execution of McVeigh ... and the warped logic of people ... I mean if death is seen as a 'solution', it's because people just do NOT want to ask the curly questions, like why does someone become like he became. Everyone starts out as a newly born infant. So using that warped logic and since you can never predict with any accuracy who will go that far off the rails, you'd have to wipe out every human being if you wanted to be absolutely sure of no more 'killers' ... I mean you can execute all the criminals in the world and guess what, we still have the same dysfunctional emotional environment that created them all in the first place, so we're constantly breeding new 'crazies' ... sorry for the tone, a bit of a downer today ... and very, very few ordinary folk will EVER accept their dialy attitude & actions help sustain the climate that makes some people go off the deep end ... and until they do, blaming and demonising and vengeance will most likely continue to be the way of things ...

In the meantime, the interpersonal tension generated when 'nearly everyone' holds such a view of things is what drives plenty of people right off the deep end (Well, that's my opinion, anyway.
