Nathan Paramanathan (Fellow of the RMIT(Fine Arts) M.A.,Ph.D, Psycho-Social Studies Melb University ); Head, Art Edn.Dept.Phillip Institute of Technology 1975 to 1987. Was the first President of the Institute of Art Education (1974-1978) ) and has presented papers at the I.N.S.E.A. (International Society for Education through Art) conferences in Bath (U.K.) and Rotterdam (Holland). President of the Hawthorn Artists Society (1993,1994) and for some time Secretary of ANATA (Aust National Art Therapy Association);a practicing Artist and Art Therapist. Deputy President of the Victorian Artists Society from 1989 to 1991 and an elected Fellow of the Society. and their 1993 'Artist of the Year '. Has worked for a number of years with Clinical Psychologists , using art with psychotherapy groups. Malaysian born came to Australia in 1949.. For some years Professional Member of ANATA. Was Chairman of the Course Development Committee for the RMIT University's MA Arts Therapy Course 1993/1994).
Fourteen one-man shows, enjoy
painting the Australian landscape, including the Wilcannia Plains, the
waters of the Coorong,the ruggedness of Mount Buffalo ,the red terrains
of Western Australia and more recently the unique wilderness of Kakadu
and the colour of Broome. I work with oil on canvas and board as well on
paper where I incorporate acrylics , water colour and ink. My works
can be seen at Noel's Gallery , Maling Road, Canterbury , a Melbourne
suburb

First Prize Water Colour- Ivanhoe Girls Grammar ,1988; Award Exhibition

Collections:
My work is in the collections
of a number of universities and business houses namely the campuses of
Melbourne , Monash ,La Trobe, R.M.I.T., and Footscray, the Shepparton Regional
Art Gallery. Also the Menara Maybank and the Australian High Commission
in Kuala Lumpur.One of thirty Australian water colorists whose work has
been included in an international exhibition in Taiwan , 1994 ,1995and
1996.
