We each are already immortal, eternal, beings. Most religions teach this, however most have forgotten the fact that "immortal, eternal" means having always existed as well as always continuing to exist. Thus a mortal life is but a window of conscious experience in the eternity of each true self. Thus there is no real birth and no real death. Physical birth and death are but alternating (and varying) days and nights of eternal souls. We each are already omniscient beings, but few have been conscious of this as the everyday filters that develop from birth cloak our eyes and consciousness for our soul's purpose of focusing on this mortal, immediate, reality. Most chose to lose consciousness in early childhood to permit the experience of development of consciousness. (Blocking divine consciousness enables growth in mortal consciousness.)
Conception is not initiated by the parents, but by the incoming soul. The soul (perhaps thousands of years before mortal birth) invited the souls of prospective parents whether they will parent it. Upon agreement, there is divine orchestration over many years to set a stage and the parents (now incarnate) are drawn together by spiritual and physical attraction, and the child is seeded and pregnancy happens. Before, throughout, and after pregnancy the child's soul is receiving, delighting, and absorbing valuable experience; and spiritual growth happens for the child, the parents, and all who are in the sphere (grandparents, siblings, friends etc), whether they believe it or not. (Because a foetus, child, or autistic adult, seems unresponsive is no indication of its consciousness.)
Furthermore, in the omniscience of the soul during its choosing of its parents, it already knew all the circumstances of its prospective life - the characters of the parents, its siblings, its life duration (long, short, abortion, or miscarriage), and every other detail. It chose those circumstances because they provide the exact perfect experiences for its own soul growth step.
Thus every life is a complete life. The life of a "miscarried" or aborted child who dies a few days (or a few months) into pregnancy, the life of a four year old child who dies in a road accident, or that of a young married man who dies from cystic fibrosis or suicide, is no less complete than the 80 year life of a sage. No one's life is "cut off early". There is no "terrible loss". There is no "punishment from God". At someone's passing, the pain (a most powerful initiator of growth experience) is in those still living on this earth. (The pain is for their spiritual benefit. The pain is as equal a blessing as joy and laughter. Spiritual perspective dissolves the pain leaving nothing but love; that is why Jesus and the saints experience nothing but divine love. What you and I might experience as pain, they experience as love.)
By its incarnation, each soul experiences and fulfils its life's choices, absorbs lessons, and spiritually grows, be the life short or long. But why are some babies stillborn? The reasons are infinitely varied, for example, one lady miscarried so that the girl angel who briefly presenced herself in her womb, could help heal the woman's deep-seated sorrow at her loss of the blind grandmother that she looked after when she was a child. (When about 12 years old, she had lived alone with the blind grandmother, doing everything for her - cooking, cleaning, washing, feeding, singing and reading to her, and being company to her.) The girl angel was able to break binds to help free the loving grandmother from the woman, to allow her to move on. (The grandmother was bound by her concern for the woman's sorrow at her passing.) The spiritual alchemy of the pregnancy allowed the transformation bridge between the three loving souls needed for the moving forward of both the woman and her grandmother.
In another's case, her repeated "miscarriages" may be those souls' gifts to her to help her heart soften and open, and heal rifts between her and her parents, to love them and appreciate each other more deeply. (Again, the souls involved with such brief mortal lives, were angels serving many.)
All is in perfection; we just need to discover the perfections.
With Christ's Love,

PS From the spiritual perspective (the only real perspective), it is so vital to provide every child with the most beautiful, peaceful, nurturing - gentle appropriate music, no violent or loud TV or radio - both before, during, and after birth. Moving from disembodiment, to pregnancy, to birth, then into everyday life, are immense transformations for every soul.
As for pregnancy ultrasound, it is like a depth charge to a submarine. That is why a placid foetus jumps and moves when it is bombarded by such violation. In a 100 years time, people will shake their heads in disbelief that this practice was ever done. There is no need for ultrasound. The soul, even as a foetus, knows exactly what it wants and is in control of the pregnancy. If it needs and wants sickness, it will create it; if it wants health, it will create it. A loving, caring, and nurturing environment (healthy food, no alcohol, drinking lots of pure water, exercise) then loving breast feeding, are what the unborn child wants the mother to experience for its optimum sustenance.
Lastly, note that there is little need for medical abortion as God has His/Her own form of abortion: it is called miscarriage. If the omniscient incoming soul chose (for example) a homeless drug-addicted single woman to be its mother for its growthful life experience, how can anyone have the right to deny it and decide for medical abortion? God's infinite tapestry is not predictable; instead we can trust God much more and live lovingly in its flow.
